At the foot of the Lombard Prealps, the branches of Lake Como wind along small villages and mountain ranges, creating breathtaking views that have always been a popular destination for tourism, holidays, travel. Since the European Grand Tour (a long journey that European aristocrats of the seventeenth century allowed themselves to deepen their knowledge of art and culture and where Italy was often the final destination), the views of Lake Como have inspired intellectuals and prominent personalities, offering its beauty to study, rest, reflection, expression and inspiration.
Along the shores of Lake Como there are picturesque ancient villages, where you can breathe an atmosphere laghee that seems to have crystallized in a distant and authentic time. But that's not all: the shores of Lake Como are famous for the beautiful villas that stand on the lake in all their majesty and elegance, including classical architecture and poetic reflections, luxury interiors and gardens dotted with refined plants and blooms of intense colors.
To tell all the beautiful villas of Lake Como would require a very large space, so we want to describe some of them as an invitation to explore the shores of Lake Como.
Remaining in the city we meet Villa Olmo, which touches the water with its imposing neoclassical architecture. The gardens that surround it are among the most important in the Como area and host suggestive structures, the important fountain with the triton, romantic paths and majestic and long-lived trees, some of which have been declared monuments of common heritage. Villa Olmo is the seat of the events of the Centro Nazionale Volta and has also been a film set thanks to the 1981 film Innamorato pazzo by Adriano Celentano.
If from the seventh art we move towards sculpture and painting we can reach Villa Carlotta, which hosts works by Antonio Canova, Bertel Thorvaldsen and Francesco Hayez. The botanical garden of the villa in Tremezzo hosts over 500 species of plants, while the greenhouse has been converted into a museum dedicated to the ancient agricultural tools that were used in the estate.
Driving along Via Regina from Tremezzo towards Como, we reach Cernobbio: here stands Villa d'Este, today a prestigious hotel for a selected clientele and for high-level congresses.
Prestigious events are also hosted at Villa Erba, also on the shores of Cernobbio. Villa Erba is a neo-renaissance estate built between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century; it is famous for being the home of the famous neo-realist director Luchino Visconti, who remembers the boundless gardens in which the villa is immersed and from which you can admire the beauty of the lake: directly from the stairs that skim the water or from the panoramic tower that overlooks the surrounding landscape.
Today Villa Erba is a prestigious location for events that choose Lake Como as their setting; in addition, the complex has a conference center with an elegant and dynamic design inspired by the ancient greenhouses of Lake Como: inside you can get more than 500 stands, but also 28 meeting rooms with capacity up to 1,500 seats. A setting full of suggestive notes in which every business meeting, every cultural event takes on even more value and value. Villa Erba is a unique location for art and innovation, where history, culture and cinema intertwine and meet elegant and fascinating structures: the secular park, an English garden overlooking Lake Como, the old Villa, an engaging environment for unique events and finally the large green space of the Galoppatoio and the direct landing from the lake ... all linked by the unmistakable beauty of Lake Como, whose views take your breath away so much that they can not be described, but only experienced.
