In the heart of Villa Erba is enclosed a piece of Italian cinematography history: the rooms of Luchino Visconti. An itinerary where the deep bond between the director and the villa is still alive. Here Luchino, during the summer months of his childhood, lived moments of great carelessness with his brothers and family. A museum which can be visited upon appointment, a perfect occasion for your guests to relive, amongst original furniture and memorabilia, the enchanting atmospheres of the villa.

The deep connection between the director and the villa emerges in his films. Echoes, visual fragments, glimpses of Villa Erba recurring in Visconti’s different masterpieces: from the main ballroom featuring in “The Leopard”, to the dockyard featuring in “The Damned”; spaces and decorative elements are also mentioned and feature in “Death in Venice”. In 1972 Luchino Visconti returned to Villa Erba to complete the editing of “Ludwig”.
